Highlights from the “LEttERS HoME” exhibition will be displayed at the Coffee House including a sign stating “Will Work for Money,” a folding chair, a shopping cart with bottles and other salvaged treasures, a cardboard box a homeless man slept in and several life-size cutout photographs of homeless people.
"It’s a powerful presentation focusing on the difficulties faced by homeless people," said Peter Moore, a board member of South Oakland Citizens for the Homeless (S.O.C.H.) the organization which supports the Welcome Inn Homeless Center in Royal Oak.

Artist Susan Clinthorne, who lives in Ann Arbor and earned her bachelor’s degree in art from Eastern Michigan University, said she and her sister, Sally Thielen of Davison, collaborated on the exhibit. “It gives a face, it gives humanity to the homeless people we see,” said Clinthorne. “The primary goal is to have people ask questions, to have that personal interaction with the exhibit. I like that people can walk up and take their time to read, think, imagine. They can even touch the signs.”
This is the third annual Coffee House organized by the Berkley Clergy Association. Praise bands from Greenfield Presbyterian, Berkley First United Methodist, Cana Lutheran, Our Lady of La Salette of Berkley, and First Congregational Church and Good Shepherd Lutheran of Royal Oak will be joined by S.T.A.G.E. youth ministry and an ecumenical children’s choir to make a joyful noise for the Lord.
Doors open at 6:00p.m. in the Berkley High School Collaborative Center. There is a suggested donation of $10 for the show. Pizza will be served ($1.50/slice) from 6:00-7:00pm. Goodies and refreshments will be served and donations will be accepted.
