Huntington Woods Will Be Hoppin' This Weekend

The festivities kick off Saturday with the Huntington Woods Men's Club and Women's League cider and doughnuts sale, an electronics drop-off, a used book sale, Public Safety open house and hay rides and wrap up Sunday with a benefit walk.

Huntington Woods will be hopping this weekend and residents have no reason not to get involved as there are no Michigan or Michigan State home games to create distractions!

Check out the complete list of events below.

Cider and doughnuts sale

  • When: 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
  • Where: The intersections of York and Lincoln and Lincoln and Scotia, as well as at the Department of Public Works.
  • Cost: A half-dozen doughnuts will be $3.50 and a half-gallon of cider will be $6.
  • Why go: All proceeds from the 37th annual Huntington Woods Men's Club and Women's League cider and doughnuts sale will be reinvested into the community.
  • What else: Cider will not available by the gallon due to damage to the state's apple crop this year.

Electronics drop-off, shredder

  • When: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday; the shredder will be available until 1:30 p.m.
  • Where: Department of Public Works.
  • Cost: Free.
  • Why go: Drop off your electronics, metals and books for recycling and shred your sensitive documents.
  • What else: Open to members of all Southeastern Oakland County Resource Recovery Authority communities.

Used Book Sale

  • When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
  • Where: Huntington Woods Public Library, lower level.
  • Cost: Paperbacks start at only a quarter.
  • Why go: Get a deal on adult, young adult and children's selections from best-sellers to classics. Proceeds benefit the library. Open to the public.

Public Safety Open House

  • When: 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday.
  • Where: Huntington Woods Public Safety Department
  • Cost: Free.
  • Why go: Bring the kids to check out public safety vehicles up close; put out a pretend fire; meet public safety officers and volunteer firefighters; enjoy cider, doughnuts, popcorn and hot chocolate; then take a hay ride to the Recreation Center.

Hay Day

  • When: 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday.
  • Where: Huntington Woods Recreation Center.
  • Cost: Admission is free, but refreshments will be served for a small fee.
  • Why go: This family-friendly event will feature games, crafts, pony rides, a petting farm and hay rides to the Public Safety open house.

Sarah Gittleman Walk for Mastocytosis

  • When: Registration at 9:15 a.m.; walk at 10 a.m.
  • Where: Recreation Center.
  • Cost: Click here to make a donation or register at the rec center.
  • Why go: The fifth annual event is held in honor of Sarah Gittleman, who passed away from the rare, incurable disease at age 23. It also recognizes those who are struggling with the illnesses.
