More than 500 prizes will be up for grabs Friday, April 19, at Berkley High School during the 14th annual Tin Can Auction.

The free, family-oriented event that benefits Berkley School District sports teams, as well as the Berkley Bears Athletic Boosters, has generated more than $30,000 in past years, auction chairwoman Lisa Bakers said.

Refreshments will be available and participants can buy tickets for a chance to win prizes including the following.

"The funds have financially supported athletic teams and student athletes to have new uniforms and equipment that is specifically required for their sport.  They also have the opportunity to participate in tournaments and competitions 'cost-free,' that normally these additional fees would be passed on to the students/families," Baker wrote in an e-mail to Patch.

"The Berkley Bears Athletic Boosters (BBAB) recently purchased a much-needed brand new scoreboard for Hurley Field, where a good portion of our sports play," she added. "We were also able to renovate and finally bring 'up-to-date' our athletic training room that benefits all of our athletes with new training equipment and a new and improved facility."
