Summer Soaker Brings Power Outages to Berkley, Huntington Woods

More severe weather is in the forecast this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Nearly 2,000 customers in Berkley Huntington Woods were without power Thursday evening following a powerful thunderstorm, with more severe weather forecast this weekend.

The DTE Energy outage map showed 1,940 customers in Berkley and 29 in Huntington Woods were without power as of 9:10 p.m.

Motorists dodged deep puddles pooled on roadways Thursday evening and more rain was on the way, according to the National Weather Service.

  • Friday: Thunderstorms likely, high of 76 degrees.
  • Saturday: Showers likely, high of 76 degrees.
  • Sunday: Chance of thunderstorms, high of 75 degrees.
Throughout southeast Michigan, there were 100,000 homes and businesses without power as of 7 p.m. Thursday, DTE Energy spokesman Alejandro Bodipo-Memba told WWJ.

The number of outages was likely to increase and DTE has asked for help from other power companies, Bodipo-Memba told the radio station.
