Should Run/Walk BOOM!!! Races be Renamed?

Organizers of the Huntington Woods fundraiser ask community members to offer their input by Monday, May 6.

Organizers want your input on whether the Run/Walk BOOM!!! one-mile and 5K races in Huntington Woods should be renamed following a pair of deadly bombings April 15 at the Boston Marathon finish line.

The Run/Walk BOOM!!! races will be held Saturday, June 30, as a fundraiser for Huntington Woods' annual Fourth of July fireworks display over Rackham Golf Course.

"Before we spend hundreds of dollars to reprint brochures and banners and change the trophies and website address, we would like community feedback," committee member Alex Cooper said. “We want to be sensitive to the situation while continuing with our event.”

Visit www.runwalkboom.com by Monday, May 6, to offer your input.

The inaugural Run/Walk BOOM!!! in 2012 raised more than $9,000 and drew more than 400 participants and volunteers, according to Cooper, who added the Huntington Woods Men’s Club paid the balance of the $13,500 fireworks costs.
