Official Woodward Dream Cruise Gear a Hot Commodity

Sales of official Woodward Dream Cruise merchandise are under way at the corner of 12 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue at in Berkley and will continue throughout the week.

Despite the cool, drizzly weather Sunday, business was booming.

"It's been very, very busy. If the storm wouldn't have come through yesterday, we would have had a lot more business," Berkley Junior Women's Club member Cinda Coon said Sunday.

Coon said visitors to on Saturday usually stop by the Berkley stand after the event but were kept away by the nasty weather.

The Berkley stand will be open daily from 2 p.m. until approximately 10 p.m. (or when business slows) through Friday, when the Berkley CruiseFest classic car show takes place. On Saturday, the day of the 17th annual Woodward Dream Cruise, the stand will be open from approximately 6:30 a.m.-9 p.m.

"Come on out and get your shirts," Coon said. "A lot of people like to buy their shirts now so they don't have mess with it on Cruise day."

This year's gear features either a Camaro or collegiate-style lettering.

The merchandise sales are a big income generator for community groups including the Tri-Community Coalition, Berkley Junior Women's Club, Moms' Club, Berkley Bear Athletic Boosters and Berkley-Huntington Woods Youth Assistance.

Clarification: Some of the official Woodward Dream Cruise shirts feature a Camaro and some have collegiate lettering; none have both, according to Berkley Junior Women's Club member Deb Canto.
