Get Out: Daddy Daughter Dance, ParentPalooza, Drum Circle

Check out your guide to weekend fun in the Patch, including glow bowling and an open mic night.

You may have noticed that my weekly "Weekend Preview"column magically morphed last week into a new (but similar) column called "Get Out." That's our subtle way to tell you to, well, get out in your community and let loose after a week of the daily grind.

"Get Out" will feature more events than "Weekend Preview" did, but I'll get to the gist of each item more quickly. And that's what we're all about here at Patch – giving you the neighborhood news you need in a fun, efficient way, so you can get back to your life.

So, without further ado, here's what's happening in Berkley and Huntington Woods this weekend ...

2. OPEN MIC NIGHT

Where/When: , 28557 Woodward Ave.; every Thursday, 7 p.m.

Why Go: Dave Falk is your host for this weekly showcase of your original songs. Bring your talent out to this low-pressure way to try your hand (and voice!) at performing live.

Pricing: Free, but buy a coffee and a scone while you're there.

3. PARENTPALOOZA

Where/When: , 22920 Woodward Ave.; Sunday, 7-10 p.m.

Why Go: This annual event is a chance for Berkley parents to let their hair down, as well as show off their creative sides. Featuring a great line-up of music and entertainment by the parents of Burton Elementary School students, ParentPalooza raises funds for the Burton PTA. Leave the kids at home, though; this event is 21+. Buy your tickets at the or by calling Kris Guccione at 248-547-7915.

Pricing: $20 in advance or $25 at the door (tickets are tax deductible); cash bar

4. DRUM CIRCLE WITH HEART CHAKRA MEDITATION

Where/When: , 2965 12 Mile Rd.; Saturday, 7-8:30 p.m.

Why Go: According to a profile on nutritionist Monica Levin's website, www.healthstartswithfoods.com, drummer Tom Price used to drum in bands for entertainment purposes, but he now seeks to heal with the power of drumming. Price has found, through leading drum circles around Metro Detroit, that rhythmic drumming can reduce stress, heal emotional wounds, and give your body and soul an energizing boost. This event will also feature a special meditation focusing on the heart chakra.

Pricing: $15

5. GLOW BOWLING & KARAOKE

Where/When: Hartfield Lanes, glow bowling Fridays 6 p.m.-2 a.m. and Saturdays 9:30 p.m.-2 a.m.; karaoke Fridays and  Saturdays at 9 p.m.

Why Go: I promise you, bowling is more fun than you remember. And karaoke is way more fun than you think (you must actually sing, however, for this to be true). Combine the two at every weekend. The house lights go down and the disco, laser and black lights come on at night for a groovin' twist on plain old ball-throwin'. And when you've exhausted your throwing arm, pick up the microphone in the Hat Trick Pub and sing "Night Moves" for me.

Pricing: Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., bowl all you want and pay just $20 per lane. After 8 p.m. on Friday, and all night Saturday, it's $3 per game.
