Dream Cruise Snapshot: Witnessing for Jesus

John Brooky of Ferndale loves the cars, don't get him wrong. But he also loves Jesus. So he pairs the two passions at the Dream Cruise.

Most people come to the Woodward Dream Cruise for the cars, but John Brooky of Ferndale comes for Jesus.

The van he plans to drive Saturday in the annual car parade was parked conspicuously Thursday evening in the parking lot outside AT&T, near 12 Mile and Woodward. It sported a giant billboard querying passersby about their religious beliefs. Brooky said he's been driving some variation of the van/billboard since 1998, shortly after the cruise began in Ferndale in 1995.

"I love looking at the cars and everything, so I figured I'd witness for Jesus while I'm doing it," said the affable Brooky, who worships at in Birmingham. "It's a double treat."

When asked what kind of reaction he gets during the Dream Cruise, he said: "You get probably a quarter of the people that give you a thumbs up. ... The other quarter gives you the finger and says 'Get off Woodward.'

"The other 50 percent, you can see 'em really in awe and shocked and got touched in their hearts."
