Dream Cruise Snapshot: Tattoos, Piercings Make Special Souvenirs

"We do see a lot of spur-of-the-moment tattoos, people who just want to say they did it at the Dream Cruise," said Jennifer Elliott, who owns American Pride Tattoo in Berkley, which was offering special deals Saturday.

How much do you love the Woodward Dream Cruise? Enough to adorn your body with a permanent reminder of the day?

in Berkley is betting that you do and so is offering specials on piercings and tattoos Saturday, owner Jennifer Elliott said. Piercings, which normally cost $55 or $65, will be available for $25, and prices also will be reduced on tattoos.

"Later in the day, we'll get swamped with body piercings," Elliott said around 12:45 p.m. Saturday. "We advertise, so people come from all around."

A couple of years ago, she said, the shop did more than 40 piercings on the day of Dream Cruise.

Elliott said she has done tattoos of a Ford logo and a '57 Chevy, but she said cruisers are sometimes hesitant to get major ink on Cruise day because they want to dedicate their time to scoping out the classic cars.

Tattoo artist and piercer Andrea Smith of Berkley said Saturday that the Woodward Dream Cruise is a mixed bag.

"Part of me is a fan because of the cars," Smith said. "Part of me is not a fan because it disrupts the (traffic) flow around here. It gets pretty crazy and hectic."
