American Heart Association, Beaumont Host Go Red For Women Casting Call

Entrants are encouraged to share their story for a chance to become a national spokesperson for the campaign that fights cardiovascular disease.

Celebrate 10 years of fighting cardiovascular disease by joining the American Heart Association and Beaumont Health System during the Go Red For Women Casting Call on Friday, Feb. 1 from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Local women are encouraged to share their personal story on-camera for a chance to become a national spokesperson and make ending their number one killer a reality.

This free event is hosted by Beaumont Hospital’s Ministrelli Women’s Heart Center, located at 3601 W. 13 Mile Road in Royal Oak.

Anqunette Jamison of FOX 2 News and Tracey McCaskill of MIX 92.3 will kick off the search for the next Go Red For Women spokesperson who will represent the campaign in marketing materials, at events, and on the official web site.  Other highlights include free health screenings, health speakers, fitness demos and give-a-ways. Attendees will also have the chance to enter to win Go Red For Women packages and other prizes.

“The Go Red For Women Casting Call inspires women to serve as health advocates and contribute to a cause that encourages long-term healthy behaviors,” said Pamela Marcovitz, M.D., director, Beaumont’s Ministrelli Women’s Heart Center. “Women have the power to save lives, so now is the time to stand stronger and demand change.”

According to the American Heart Association, an estimated 43 million women in the U.S. are affected by heart disease.  In fact, 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease. Statistics suggest that women who Go Red are more likely to make healthy choices like improving their diets and talking with their doctors about developing heart health plans.

“As a heart attack survivor, I urge women to take part in this movement in order to become knowledgeable about something that is bigger than all of us--heart disease,” said Janine Krolikowski, heart attack survivor and Go Red For Women spokesperson. “It is time to listen to our bodies, be aware of the symptoms and live healthier lives.”
