Community Update

Huntington Woods resident Katherine Banicki was the recipient of the Engineering Society of Detroit's 2013 Distinguished Service Award. She was nominated for the award based on her exemplary service and contributions to the ESD and to the engineering industry as a whole.

Banicki, who hails from Bloomfield Hills, is president of Testing Engineers & Consultants (TEC) in Troy. Over the years, she's has been involved with numerous youth, civic and religious programs, resulting in a widespread philanthropic portfolio. Throughout her tenure as president of TEC, she’s received various honors, including the ESD’s Outstanding Leadership Award, being named an Architecture Institute of America Michigan Affiliate Member, gaining acceptance into the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers and earning the Wayne State University College of Engineering Socius Collegii Award.

Among her list of accomplishments and affiliations is CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) Detroit, of which she’s been a member for roughly eight years. Banicki currently sits on CREW’s programs committee.

The Engineering Society of Detroit is a 118-year-old nonprofit organization that promotes professions in both engineering and science. It’s known for providing technical resources to the greater Detroit area.

The woman-owned, 47-year-old TEC provides client support from property acquisition through construction, renovation and restoration.
