A crossing guard was hospitalized Friday morning after a vehicle struck him outside Anderson Middle School in Berkley.
Berkley Public Safety Department Deputy Director Robert North said the man was hit at approximately 8 a.m. and taken to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak with non-life threatening injuries.
The motorist involved in the incident, who was not injured, was issued citations, North said.
"We had an unfortunate accident this morning at Anderson Middle School as our crossing guard was hit by a car," principal Vince Gigliotti wrote in a note to parents. "Thanks to the quick action of students, staff and parents Berkley Public Safety and emergency medical staff were on the scene to assist within minutes.
"Please be assured that we have staff on hand to support any student who needs comfort to deal with this situation throughout the day," he added.
The accident remains under investigation, North said.
