Police Blotter: 911 Caller Reports Attempted Home Invasion
The following information was supplied by the Huntington Woods Public Safety Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
Two suspects in an attempted home invasion will have a pre-exam hearing Tuesday in 45th District Court in Berkley, according to the Huntington Woods Public Safety Department.
The suspects were arrested after a resident on Hendrie called 911 on Sept. 7 to report that two men attempted to break into her house while she was home alone with her 3-year-old child, according to a Huntington Woods Public Safety report.
The woman told a responding officer that she was upstairs on the phone with a friend when her doorbell chimed and she heard knocking on her front door. She looked out the window and saw one man at the front door and another walking toward the back of her house, according to the report.
The woman told a responding officer that she stayed on the line with her friend and used her cell phone to call 911.
She observed the man who was in her back yard walk back to the front door area and continued to hear the door chime and knocking, as well as "a loud noise that sounded like the wood around her front door being broken," according to the report. An alert tone from her alarm system then indicated the home had been breached, the report said.
The woman remained on the phone with the dispatcher and observed both men walk away from her property at that point, according to the report. The men then were intercepted a short distance away and arrested by Huntington Woods Public Safety officers, the report said.
Responding officers found damage to the front door of the woman's house and a pry bar on a lawn nearby, according to the report.
A check of the suspects' records revealed one man had a felony warrant for burglary from the 46th District Court in Southfield and a home invasion conviction from the Third Circuit Court in Detroit, according to the report.
The men will have a pre-exam hearing Tuesday in 45th District Court in Berkley, according to the Huntington Woods Public Safety Department.
