A Huntington Woods teenager was honored Tuesday night at City Hall for her efforts to assist an injured bicyclist.
Allison Archambault, a lifeguard at the Huntington Woods Aqautics Club who also is Mayor Ron Gillham's granddaughter, was presented with a resolution in her honor following an incident in which she put her first aid skills to work during a medical emergency.
Huntington Woods Public Safety Director Steve Fairman said Archambault jumped into action July 19 after a man fell off his bike and was bloodied and knocked unconscious near the corner of Ludlow and Parkwood.
Archambault checked the man's breathing and pulse and kept him still until Public Safety officers arrived, Fairman said.
"She did a nice job and, honestly, it's the kind of thing where someone could have just kept going," he said. "It was a pretty courageous thing for a 16-year-old girl to do, don't you think?"
A beaming Gillham stood with his granddaughter as she accepted the award.
"I'm very proud of her," he said. "There are times and commission meetings that make you very proud and that's certainly one of them."
