Fuel Report: Gas Prices Stable While Flirting with $4 a Gallon
Michigan’s statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas has reached $3.94 a gallon, 19 cents higher than the national average of $3.75.
The cost for automotive mobility starts the week a hair below the $4-per-gallon mark at $3.949 a gallon, as reported by Gasbuddy.com, a price forecasting agency and data provider. The national average is nearly 20 cents less at $3.75 a gallon, up from $3.52 a year ago, according to AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
A recent spike in gas prices nationwide has caused plenty of pain at the pump, which in turn has been a boon to the nation’s Big Three automakers. Reports of fuel-efficient small car sales at General Motors, Ford and Chrysler were up in February.
However, a Gallup poll released Thursday found that, on average, gas prices would have to hit $5.30 before people would be forced to make significant cutbacks in other types of spending.
