Hiller's Helps 'Hunger Free Summer' Campaign – So Can You
Shoppers at Hiller's Market in Berkley can help the Hunger Free Summer campaign by making a donation at the checkout counter.
Hunger Free Summer aims to provide 2 million meals for hungry children in southeast Michigan. Forgotten Harvest, Gleaners Community Food Bank, Charter One Foundation and other corporate and community donors are partnering to match the donations dollar-for-dollar.
"More than 300,000 children in southeast Michigan receive free or reduced-fee meals during the school year," according to Gleaners. "In the summer months, they often go without."
Here are five ways to participate:
- Donate at www.HungerFreeSummer.org.
- Call 888-332-7140.
- Text “HFS” TO 85944 (a $10 donation will be automatically added to your cell phone bill). Message and data rates may apply.
- Mail donation to: Hunger Free Summer, P.O. Box 1380, Troy, MI 48099.
- Make a donation at Hiller’s and Hollywood Market checkout registers throughout Metro Detroit.
"Every $1 donation provides eight nutritious lunches for hungry children in southeastern Michigan," Gleaners and Forgotten Harvest say.
