City Participates in Program to Dispose of Residents' Unwanted Prescription Drugs

Huntington Woods will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.

The effort is a collaboration between Huntington Woods Public Safety Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration and other local law enforcement agencies, to give residents a venue to dispose of any unwanted or unused prescription drugs.

"Take Back" will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Public Safety Building. Residents can dispose of expired or unused medications for proper destruction – no questions asked.

This service is free and anonymous.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a vital public safety and health issue. More than 7 million Americans abuse prescription drugs, according to the 2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

Each day, approximately 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time, according to the Partnership for a Drug Free America.
